Carrick's Corner History
The first few photos are of Carrick’s Bakery, which were retrieved from the Ontario Archives. The Williamson Bookstore was on King Street at Young in Toronto, these images were photographed in the 1890’s. Another image is from 1860! The bookstore seems to also have been a printer back then as well. The next few images show the store that Old Morris Tobacconist is based on in the kit. It stood at the Northwest corner of Adelaide and Bay. Somewhere along Bay Street was also Carrick’s Bakery. The dates that these images were taken range between 1890 and 1920. The horse drawn vehicles and the fashions suggest the turn of the century for the one photograph while the image with the billboard could be anywhere from 1910 to 20’s.
Ebb & Flow Hair is a hair salon located on Quadra Island in British Columbia. I was working out of town when my friend, a co-worker told me he was going to get a hair cut. He had asked me if I wanted to go, I was hesitant at first, but he had heard that the hair stylist bore a resemblance to the actress Uma Thurman. This peaked my interest. I went, even though I didn’t really need a hair cut. When I got there I met Karina. (She has attended several Model Railroad Conventions with me. The Detroit NMRA, the Narrow Gauge Convention in Portland, OR and the Craftsman Structure Show in Mansfield, MA). Our first encounter went over very well, and that was the longest and best haircut I ever had. Almost three hours in that chair, I had Karina cut, trim and even color my gray side burns just so I could enjoy her company that much longer.
